But everyone makes it out to be good, so I might as well give it a try.

So, recommend what to watch, as long as it is in english too.

I recommend two:
Dragon Crisis and Angel beats.
You can watch them at kiss anime. Just look for (dub)

I watched the first episode of angel beats, I still need to watch the other thing.
